Peacefully located along the banks of the Guadiana river looking across to Spain with its own riverside village of San Lucar. Alcoutim is a quaint undevelopped inland village providing a great insight into the cultural ways of living for the Algarvian hill folk.

Its run-down streets and attractively tatty buildings with their faded facade colours create a unique beauty worth experiencing.
The small castle atop of the village is worth the 2.50€ entry fee not only for the well kept gardens and views but also a glimpse into the past with its well preserved archealogical site dating well before Christ & the Roman conquest.

River cruises operate frequently here, (click on the "Activities & Pursuits" option in the navigation panel to the left of this screen for information).
The well run Tourist Information centre has heaps of information available for all concerned.

Alcoutim is also proud to provide its very own sandy beach, ("Praia Fluvial"), alongside the river complete with its own spacious and shady terrace and bar for refreshments and snacks. The river water here is perfectly safe for swimming in.
