This attractive medieval village is topped by its castle and restored ramparts. The church and its large dome roof stands aside the stone walls above the village whilst narrow cobbled streets run down.
The village life here is sedate and allows for a relaxing stroll through its streets with little distirbance. There are a number of cafe/bars, a daily fresh vegetable and fruit market, excellent bread shop and post office.

September is when the village truly comes to life with the annual Medieval celebrations whereby the village and castle alike transport themselves back a few centuries for its week long festivities.

Located just 5 minutes drive away from the Spanish border, the nearby Castro Marim golf course is professionally setup and a popular spot to visit even if it just means having a coffee from its elevated position over the surrounding area.
RESERVA NATURAL DO SAPAL DO CASTRO MARIM
Surrounding the village for almost 270º is the wildlife nature reserve and salt flats of "Sapal do Castro Marim". This is a great spot for bird watchers and and the banks lining the salt flats create for easy, sedatory walking and biking.
Flamingos, abundant in their numbers, spend their days with beaks below the water surface as they search for crustaceons to feed on.
